Welcome Students: Housing Options
Apartment
Most students elect to share an apartment with other YISA students in an attractive complex 10 minutes walk from the campus of Nanjing Normal University. A recent YISA student told us that she will probably not live in a place this nice until ten years after graduating. Private rooms are available for most students on a first come first served basis. The apartments have a small kitchen, TV, internet access, and a washing machine. There will be weekly housekeeping available and laundry services (gas or electric dryers are typically not available) can be arranged for a small additional cost. You will find many open air markets, grocery stores, and excellent but inexpensive restaurants near the apartments.
Home stay with Nanjing family
If you have chosen the home stay option in your online application, YISA will work to place you with a host family. Most Chinese host families will have a school age child. The children will most likely speak English but their parents will not. Chinese will be the primary language spoken at home. Your family will include you in many of their meals, though you will still have numerous opportunities to find meals on your own and with your classmates. If your host family lives further from campus, you may need to commute by bus or taxi. Home stays placements cannot be guaranteed for all students.

- Indoor and outdoor basketball courts
- Soccer fields
- Tennis courts
- Softball field
- Pool tables and ping pong tables
- Indoor fitness center
- Other activities can be started based on student interest
Bicultural intra-mural sports activities will be offered throughout the semester.
