Welcome Orientation
Get to know your new home in Nanjing as you move into your apartment, meet your roommates, and begin exploring with a pocket map and friendly YISA staff as your guides. After an overview of YISA policies, you will be taken to the famed Deji Plaza where you may note the many entertainment options and browse a variety of international stores. In the plaza, a group dinner will be provided at an authentic Chinese restaurant. Your orientation will conclude with a trip to Xinjiekou where you may visit useful stores like Walmart to stock up on any necessities.
Xuanwu Lake - Jiming Temple
Enjoy the picturesque Xuanwu Lake where you can meander among the expansive, well manicured grounds or choose to rent a bicycle or boat to explore. According to local legend, a black dragon was seen in the lake and was believed by Chinese Taoists to be a water god called Xuanwu which gave the area its name. You will then have the opportunity to visit the one of notable Buddhist temples first built in 557BCE, the Jiming Temple.
Confucius Temple
The Confucius Temple in Nanjing was originally constructed in the year of 1034 in the Song Dynasty. It was a place to worship and consecrate Confucius, the great philosopher and educator of ancient China. The area around the temple consists of a series of tourist shops, snack bars, restaurants and tea cafes. Just a short walk from the Confucius Temple is the Aqua City mall where you can browse international brands and even catch a movie at theater!
Purple Mountain
Come explore the beautiful Purple Mountain! Its peaks are often found enveloped in mysterious purple and golden clouds at dawn and dusk, hence comes its name "Purple Gold Mountain." The area is home to over 200 heritage and scenic tourist sites including the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. Sun Yat-sen was a Chinese doctor, revolutionary and political leader. As the foremost pioneer of Nationalist China, Sun is frequently referred to as the Founding Father of Republican China.
Suzhou
Not far from Nanjing is the growing city of Suzhou. Here you will tour the 1,000 year old canal town of Tongli and visit the picturesque Tiger Hill. The trip will conclude with a visit to a traditional silk factory where you can see the journey of silk from worm to scarf and can purchase a variety of real silk souvenirs!
Shanghai
Take the high speed train to Shanghai Central Railway Station and step out into one of the busiest areas in the biggest city in China. From here you will explore the unique cuisine of Shanghai, walk down Nanjing Road, one of the most famous shopping streets in the world to the elegant waterfront of The Bund, visit the Pudong financial district, and finally attend a performance of the incredible Shanghai Acrobats.
Beijing
Relax on an overnight sleeper train to Beijing’s new South Railway Station. Arriving at 7:00am, you will have the whole day open for exploring many amazing sites in Beijing such as the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, the shopping mecca of the Silk Road Market, and the infinite dining possibilities in Beijing’s neighborhoods. One of your days will be spent climbing and walking along the Great Wall of China, about a two hour bus ride from the hotel. Upon returning from the Wall you will have a chance to visit the Night Food Market, where you can find any imaginable food served on a stick.
Fourth of July
Celebrate with a huge American buffet dinner followed by a fireworks display that is uniquely Chinese

Bid farewell to your classmates, staff, and China in style at a classy group dinner!
